1. Is distance education a possible option for hotel management study?

Yes. Though on site learning has been the traditional means of obtaining a degree and there are well established schools in this field already, there are now a lot of online hotel management schools offering similar programmes. Many of these online programmes are also administered by well known hotel management schools offering traditional instructions.

2. If I have been working in the hotel industry for many years and I just want a formal education, can my experience be exchanged for credits?

This consideration is dependent on the hotel school you apply to. Some schools will take into account their students’ experience. As such, you will be allowed to take qualifying exams to determine whether you have to undergo certain courses or not. If you pass the exam for a specific course, you will automatically earn the credit.

3. If I opt to take an associate degree programme in the beginning and then decide to pursue a bachelors’ degree later on, will my associate degree courses be credited towards my bachelors’ degree?

Again, this will depend on the hotel school. However, more often than not, if you undergo your associate degree programme and bachelors’ degree programme in one hotel school, they will credit courses from the former programme to the latter one.

4. Are there any good hotel schools in countries outside of the UK?

Definitely! In fact, some of the most renowned hotel management schools are found in other countries such as Switzerland. That does not mean, however, that you have to go outside of the UK to get a good education in this field, as there are numerous excellent hotel management schools within the UK as well.
